Bouldering On Vancouver Island!

If you were ever on your way to or from Tofino and you were wondering if there was climbing nearby, look no more! Sutton Creek Boulders offer an awesome granite bouldering experience with a very quick approach right from the highway. There are only 50 problems recorded at this point, but from what I hear the potential in the area is enormous, bring your brush and have at it! This place looks super fun with quick drying, sunny exposure and lots of cool looking boulders! Included here is a very good pdf topo that should be good to get out! ENJOY!

Broken Bells is Gnarls Barkley and the lead singer of The Shins. They put together this really good album together that is an easy listen and very creative. I really enjoyed this song!

Revelstoke Rock Climbing!

Recently Ruedi Belginger has released a new guidebook for Revy with tons of new multi-pitch and couple of new areas. Dean Flick, Ruedi and others have been hard at work over the last few years and this area has really become a destination in it's own!

There are 6 new multi-pitch lines that have been established close to town up to 16 pitches! So psyched! You also have a crag with a tyrolean traverse over a raging creek; multi-pitch, rap-in climbing over a lake; and lots of other great classics in great settings! If you are looking for an adventurous experience, revy is a great place!

GodMan Creek Bouldering - Cypress Mountain, BC

Godman Creek is a drainage pouring out of Cypress Mountain that provides some excellent bouldering oppourtunities and tons of great mountain biking. This bouldering area offers tons of problems in a sweet forested setting and is steps away from West Vancouver. So, if you ever in Vancouver and you dont quite have the time to make it to Squamish, bring your pad anyway, there are tons of problems here at a moderate grade on very good quality granite waiting for you. As well, there is a lot potential here waiting to be unearthed from the moss, bring your brush and have a blast!

CLINT EASTWOOD CRAG! Squamish B.C

With so much rock around, it can be hard to keep tabs on all the secluded little spots around. A couple of folks put some time into creating a really cool climbing spot in a great location that would fill a day and a nice camping night out. Located 33km off Highway 99, a 2WD car will get you 80% of the way, where past this the logging road gets a little harry and its only a 40 minute walk. A couple of hundred feet past the crag is Chuck Chuck creek and a beautiful waterfall to add to the experience.

Mt.SLEESE - Chilliwack River Valley, Epic Alpine Rock!

The potential for amazing climbing in the Chilliwack River Valley is endless. Those of us that have driven through have probaly come close to swerving off the highway while being preoccupied with looking at the cliffs and mountains around. To just barley scratch the surface there is Northeast Buttress of Mt.Sleese; a very big adventure with high quality climbing in a alpine setting. The weather and remoteness of this climb make it a serious endeavour, but with the right planning and a bit of luck you will be rewarded with an awesome climb. The route in it's 24 pitches is a mix of moderate climbing (5.7-5.9) and 4th class, with options of up to 10c variations. Included here is a brief but good description of the route along with a good topo. Kevin McLane's Alpine Select also has the description of the route. Enjoy and have fun this summer!

YaK Peak! Alpine Rock Climbing

Yak Peak is a big slabby spire located at the summit of Coquihalla Pass. It hosts great multi-pitch routes on mostly good granodiorite rock anywhere from 5.8 to 5.10+ up to 14 pitches long. The nature of the climbs is super slabby runout sections to steeper cracks the higher you get with mixed protection. If you are nearby and looking for an adventure, this is the place. Hope, British Columbia - A Bouldering Destination!

Just recently a friend and myself were trying to plan a bit of a bouldering roadtrip that would cover all the best areas in southern BC. We stumbled upon some really good spots, but we never knew there was such a huge amount of problems and potential in the Hope area. Areas just full of awesome granite boulders with tons of problems on them and room for much more. I found a really good resource to some of the main spots worth visiting, I will just post a link here that should send you right to a printable guide. Some areas are right in or near Hope and some are in the area. Enjoy!!

Waterfall Ice Climbing In The Canadian Rockies

For most of us ice climbers, the Canadian Rockies is an ice mecca! For those who have not visited, there are some many amazing climbs waiting for you to experience. Sadly, the most recent ice climbing guide has gone out of print, yes, supposodley there is a new one on the way, but from past experiences this could be a while. Here is a link, for those without access to the guidebook, looking to plan a trip to climb some ice in these parts. It outlines many of the classy routes and some other great information collected on a web page from the 1999 Ice Climbing Guide.  All the pages are easily printable and covers most areas worth visiting.
